**ATTENTION SHORELINE & EDMONDS, WA RESIDENTS**Point Wells Development Open House on July 27th

Title:  Point Wells Open House on July 27th
Body:
There are two upcoming open houses being held by the company that owns property at the Point Wells site near Richmond Beach.  The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the long-term future of the land and the planned development of the property.
The first open house will take place on July 27 at 6:30 PM at the Edmonds Conference Center.  (201 Fourth Ave N. Edmonds, WA 98020).  The property owner will be talking about their proposal for changes for the land.  The owner wants to change the use of the property from its current use as a marine fuel distribution center and asphalt plant to an upscale development of condominiums, shops and restaurants.
There is resistance in the surrounding city's and communities to the development.  Some of the concerns with the development include:
Significant traffic volume
Mitigation of impacts (parks & open space, service delivery, transportation, ect.)
Preservation of existing view corridors
Scale and bulk of the planned development
The City of Shoreline, The City of Woodway, and Save Richmond Beach.org all submitted appeals to the Growth Management Hearings Board.  www.saverichmondbeach.org has an excellent summary of the latest updates to the project and their concerns about it.
There will be a second open house on September 23rd at 6:30 PM the Shoreline Conference Center (18560 1st Ave NE Shoreline WA 98155)

How Prepared Are You For A Quake?

How Prepared Are You For A Quake?

With the recent catastrophic global events, you can’t help but be reminded that Seattle is located in earthquake country and is susceptible to a large earthquake of its own!  Homeowners can take many steps to mitigate or reduce the earthquake hazard to themselves, their loved ones and also to their homes.  Following is a list of tasks and items to consider while prepping yourself and your home for a possible earthquake:

Preparing Your Home

• Home retrofitting / Structural Mitigation

• Secure Your Water Heater, Kitchen Cabinets, Tall Furniture, and Wall Hangings

• Garage and Storage Safety - securing chemicals

Gathering Supplies (72 Hour Kit)

Water - Three (3) gallons for each person in your household is the minimum amount required to take care of drinking, cooking, and hygiene needs for the first 72 hours of a disaster.

• Food - Store at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food. Select foods that require no refrigeration or cooking, and little or no water.

• Supplies - First-Aid Kit, Flashlight, Batteries, Portable Radio, Fire Extinguisher, Toilet Paper, Towelettes, Non-Electric Can Opener, Paper Plates/Cups, Utensils, Duct Tape, Face Mask

• Clothing and Bedding - Gloves, Complete Change of Clothes, Blankets, Sturdy Shoes, Warm Socks

Cash and Important Family Documents - Bank Account Numbers, Copies of Insurance Policies, Wills, POA’s, etc.

• Pets - Don’t forget about your pets!  Water (2-3 Gallons for 60lb pet for 72hrs), Food, Food & Water Bowls, Carrier, Medication, First Aid Kit, Collar/Tags/Leash, Current Photo (in case of separation), Shot/Health Records & Veterinarian Info.

Out of Area Phone Contact - Assign an out of area phone contact as long distance lines are typically more reliable than local lines.  This is the person each family member is to contact in an emergency to relay information to one another.

Know How and Where to Control the Utilities - After an earthquake turning off the gas, water, and electricity may reduce the risk of fire or water damage in your home.

Budget Cuts Impact Seattle Parks and Recreation

Keep our pools, community centers, and parks open!

The Mayors Office and Seattle City Council have some tough choices to make this summer in regards to which pools, community centers, and park services will no longer be offered due to a $10,000,000 budget gap for the second half of the 2010 budget.  Let your voice be heard by contacting city leaders.

Your personal story about the pools, community centers, and park services is the most important thing for them to hear to encourage them to keep these services open especially in a down economy when we need parks and recreation services available to us more than ever!

Following are some of the pools and community centers in our neighborhood that may be affected:

•    Helene Madison Pool
•    Bitter Lake Community Center
•    Meadowbrook Pool and Community Center
•    Loyal Heights Community Center
•    Ballard Pool and Community Center
•    Green Lake Community Center
•    Evans Pool

This is the last week before the decisions are announced on June 1st!  Send the  Mayor and City Council your personal story today!

Experts Predicting A Rise In Inflation (30 year rate chart included)

We want to let you know that many experts are predicting a rise in inflation and consequently a rise in interest rates as a result of the government's stimulus spending. The chart below demonstrates just how historically low interest rates are. Take a look at where rates were in the early eighties - the last time inflation skyrocketed.

Now is still a great time to buy with prices down as much as 15% from their peaks, the $8,000 first time homebuyer tax credit for buyers who have not owned a home in the last three years has been extended, and now some homeowners who have owned their home for at least five years may qualify for a new tax credit!
